One of the difficulties of starting and growing a small business (besides cash flow) is scalability. For instance, the difference between making a part-time income on the side while working and making a full-time income and being able to quit your job. There tends to be a stage where you have too much business for part-time but not enough business to fully support you.
Once the business gets going, it can be more of the same: enough work for one employee but not enough for two, and so on.
